Established: Bristol Myers Squibb first began operations in Ireland in 1964 with an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient Plant (API) in Swords, County Dublin.
Bristol Myers Squibb’s present manufacturing operations in Ireland encompass a recently built, cutting-edge biologics drug-substance manufacturing facility situated in Cruiserath, Dublin 15, alongside External Manufacturing divisions located in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15, and warehousing facilities in Shannon, Co. Clare. Employing roughly 650 individuals in Ireland, Bristol Myers Squibb sees approximately 500 dedicated to the Cruiserath facility alone.
Jobs and Investment: In 2023, BMS announced that they would be investing $400m in a new Sterile Drug Product (SDP) facility, which is Bristol Myers Squibb’s first European SDP facility for biologics manufacturing. The new plant will be based at its existing campus in Cruiserath in Dublin 15 and will support the production of existing and new medicines. It’s anticipated that 350 roles will be created as part of the investment. Construction is expected to commence in March 2024 with the view to being operational by 2026.
