Established: AbbVie currently employs approximately 2,600 employees across six sites in Ireland ( five manufacturing facilities in Cork, Dublin, Sligo and Mayo, two offices in Dublin serve the needs of the company’s Commercial, Supply Chain and Operations activities.)
AbbVie harness Irish expertise in complex chemical and biological research, testing discoveries through clinical trials as well as manufacturing many of their medicines and delivery devices here in Ireland and shipped across Europe and the World.
AbbVie Cork: the AbbVie plant in Carrigtwohill is a modern ‘bulk tablet’ facility, manufacturing solid and capsule formulations to deliver life-changing medicines in key therapeutic areas such as oncology and virology. From its beginnings in 2002, this state-of-the-art, multi-purpose facility has adapted and grown to almost 14,000 sq. m.
Jobs and Investment: The site recently marked its 20th anniversary with the announcement of a €60 million expansion that will create 70 jobs.
AbbVie North Dublin: The AbbVie Clonshaugh pharmaceutical manufacturing site in north Dublin was established in 1994. The site specialises in the manufacture of tablets and capsules, primarily in the therapeutic areas of neuroscience and gastrointestinal conditions. The manufacturing capability at the location extends across a range of technologies, including multiple releases and a range of manufacturing techniques, to deliver on a broad portfolio of capsules and tablets.
Jobs and Investment: The site has recently added a number of European and global support functions in a range of supply chain, manufacturing and engineering services.
AbbVie Sligo (Manorhamilton Road): AbbVie Ireland operates two separate plants in Sligo employing more than 400 staff. The company’s high-containment facility on the Manorhamilton Road was established in 2002 and has dedicated capabilities for potent active pharmaceutical ingredient and drug product manufacturing.
Jobs and Investment: This site recently had a significant €85 million expansion that doubled its footprint and provided additional capability to support AbbVie’s NPIs..
AbbVie Sligo (Ballytivnan): Established in 1974, AbbVie’s second Sligo site is a medical device plant and a global centre of excellence for design control and precision engineering in the production of drug delivery devices.
Jobs and Investment: AbbVie recently completed a €113 million oncology-focused manufacturing technology expansion at the Ballytivnan site and will create approximately 100 new jobs in a variety of technical and manufacturing positions.
AbbVie Westport: Established in 1977, AbbVie’s Westport facility employs approximately 1,300 people and is a centre of excellence for aseptic sterile manufacturing. The campus has grown to almost 750,000 sq. ft. on a 61-acre campus, and it encompasses a pharmaceuticals facility, two biologics plants and an ocular implant facility that manufactures a range of leading eye care products.
Jobs and Investment: The €160 million second biologics facility was opened in early 2020. The new facility features a state-of-the-art microbiology and cell-based laboratory with world-class technology and research and development capabilities to support advances in discovery, development and manufacturing.
AbbVie Dublin—Citywest: The company’s commercial offices are located at the Citywest office campus, west Dublin. More than 80 people work here overseeing the sale, supply, distribution and marketing of the company’s licensed products in Ireland
